— The nursing home then known as West Cliff was purchased
and renamed Algart Health Care. The name, Algart, was derived
from the names of its new owners – Alvin, Gary and Garth,
and Tom. Alvin Klein served as administrator for the new
facility until 1987, when he retired after having owned and
operated nursing homes in Cleveland for 30 years. His son,
Gary Klein, also having owned and operated nursing homes in
the area, assumed the role and has been serving as full time
administrator with a cumulative 29 years of experience in this
capacity.
The family ideal and
atmosphere of Algart are only part of what makes us unique.
Another is due to the combining of our nursing home and
residential care facilities. In 1985, one small wing was added
and set aside for what was then called a Rest Home. The
concept was to provide the measure of care appropriate for
persons who were alert, ambulatory, and independent,
contrasted with a nursing home candidate. Yet, as the need for
additional care arose, the person could transition from the
Rest facility into Nursing. This continuum resulted in the
availability of necessary options for the elderly, options
that have become the hallmark of Algart Health Care.
The Rest Home proved to be a
successful alternative and an economical one. It continues to
cost less than half of nursing home care while providing the
right and complete services to its residents. As the concept
caught on its resulting success spurred its growth. 1990,
’92, and ’95 saw continued expansion. These additions
resulted in the facility doubling both its size and census as
well as becoming a licensed Residential Care Facility. This
R.C.F. license by the State of Ohio permitted Algart to
provide a higher level of services than those provided under
the titles Assisted or Independent Living Facility. Currently,
Algart has 54 nursing home beds and 55 units licensed as a
Residential Care Facility. |
